July 20 - Romanian Aviation and Air Force Day
IAR 80 Hall - a tribute to the former IAR/Tractorul Brasov platform by Cartier Coresi
Man's desire to fly free like birds and conquer the sky has been present since the beginning of time. From tales of gods and winged mythical figures to today's ultra-performance flying machines, it has taken thousands of years of hard work, flashes of genius, but above all passion and dedication to make the embodiment of these aspirations and dreams an everyday reality. When the world came to a standstill in 2020, we all realised that flight means, above all, freedom.
From kites, to Leonardo da Vinci's designs, to hot air balloons, it wasn't until the early 20th century that it proved possible to build a heavier-than-air flying machine and the history of world aviation was truly born.
Romanian military aviators celebrate on July 20, under the patronage of their patron saint, St. Elijah the Thesvitean, the Day of Romanian Aviation and Air Force. On this occasion, the units of the Air Force General Staff carry out military and religious ceremonies, sports competitions, symposiums and activities specific to military tradition. Static exhibitions of military techniques, paratrooper launches and aircraft demonstration flights bring great joy to the participants, but also a sense of pride for all the achievements of the Romanian Air Force.
The spirit of freedom, passion and perseverance are the attributes under which the Coresi community was born in Brasov, still with momentum towards the highest heights. Where once was the heart of the Romanian aviation industry and later one of the leading tractor manufacturers on the international market, now stands a unique ecosystem and probably the only residential neighbourhood in the world - Cartier Coresi - with an airplane located on the pedestrian alley in the centre. The Coresi district, developed by Ceetrus Romania, is also the largest urban regeneration project in Romania and includes Coresi Business Campus, the largest business cluster in the centre of the country.
For the business community in Brasov, Nhood Romania - the company within the French Mulliez group that also manages Ceetrus services - is launching a new project: the IAR 80 conference room, a space dedicated to a variety of corporate events (conferences, business meetings, seminars, workshops, trainings, product presentations, etc.), but also custom events (book launches, personal branding, cultural events, etc.).
Located in a top business location, the IAR 80 Conference Hall benefits from state-of-the-art technical equipment, an ultra-modern design and a series of optional facilities and services, all combined in the Event Experience Design concept, making it the best choice for organizing memorable and successful events.
The name of the conference hall - IAR 80 - was chosen as an homage to the architectural, historical and creative heritage of the former IAR Brasov industrial platform, later the Tractor Plant Brasov, where the Coresi Masterplan was created with six functions (offices, shopping centre, apartments, coworking space, community hub, hotel). The IAR 80 is a monoplane model of hunting and dive bombing romanian, used inWW2produced at IAR Brașov.
"IAR 80 remains the symbol of Romanian military aviation, despite a history with a sad ending. IAR 80, beyond the aircraft itself, has shown that Romania is the place where passion for aviation, combined with quality engineering, lead to innovation and performance. Coresi Business Campus is the place where we aim to support and encourage innovation and performance, and the name IAR 80 is more than a symbol, due to its proximity to the place where the legendary Brasov aircraft was once manufactured.″
Tatian DIACONU, CEO Nhood România
In the spirit of the motto „We connect people for a better world!″ Room IAR 80 in the Coresi Business Campus will host the Coresi conference series, where the project operational team will be involved in all stages of the events from initiation, planning, implementation, deployment and completion.
"For the business community or the local community, the services we make available through this project add to the level of facilities in the neighbourhood.
For our team, it is another soul project on which we have left our mark. Like the aviators, our free creative spirit can be seen in the details of the project, in the design of the hall or in the flexibility with which we can customize the service package. Coresi Business Campus is today a complete project, located in a neighbourhood designed to increase the quality of life. And our plans don't stop there!"
Flavia FIȚOIU, Operational Director Cartier Coresi
In the portfolio of events, a conference dedicated to Romanian-French economic relations in the field of aeronautics will be organized in Brasov as an illustration of the importance of economic collaboration between the two countries in this sector.
"Romanian pioneering in aviation is a widely debated topic. The dawn of Romanian aviation coincided with that of world aviation. Important names of engineers, inventors, pilots, acrobats, names of heroes of the Royal Air Force with a large number of aerial victories are known today and, to a large extent, are related to Brasov. From the flight of Vlaicu's model, "the miniature of his flying machine", as A.P. Bănuț called it, in the courtyard of the Romanian high school in Brasov (today's "Andrei Saguna" National College) to the legendary pilot Ion Milu from Dârste, Brasov played an enormous role in Romanian aviation. But Brașov also played an important role in aeronautical engineering through the "Romanian Aeronautical Industry" or IAR Brașov, founded in 1925, and through the aircraft made there, including the legendary IAR 80, comparable to the most modern fighter planes of the time, withdrawn by the communist authorities in 1952, dismantled and destroyed in 1955.
Adrian LESENCIUC, university professor in the field of Military Sciences
The values underlying the Event Experience Design concept are creativity, ethics, orientation towards the client's needs, strategic and integrated thinking, and a constant desire to improve services. Thus, the events hosted by the IAR 80 Conference Hall will be unique, like flying aboard a high-performance aircraft, with competent crew, with the thrill of the aspiration to reach high, with the joy of the sublime spectacle of nature and the joy of a dream come true.
The launch of the IAR 80 Hall takes place exactly one year after the inauguration of the Aviators' Alley in Coresi district, which was carried out in partnership with the Romanian Aeroclub, during the event an IAR 824 model aircraft, manufactured on the former industrial platform, was exhibited.
Happy Birthday, Romanian Air Force! Serene skies to all airmen!

Ceetrus was established in Romania in January 2012 and owns a portfolio of 23 shopping centres nationwide and the mixed-use project Cartier Coresi - the largest urban regeneration project in the country.
The Coresi district integrates the unity of the three entities developed by Ceetrus: Coresi Shopping Resort, Coresi Avantgarden (together with Kasper Development) and Coresi Business Campus (together with Ascenta). Our goal is for it to become a meeting place of innovation, entrepreneurial courage and community attitude in support of people. The Coresi project, developed on 120 hectares, brings together daily, in an integrated eco-system, more than 10,000 people who work or live in the Coresi neighbourhood, and the mission undertaken by Ceetrus is to develop and animate the neighbourhood in harmony with the city and the region by improving the mix of functionalities and living experiences in the neighbourhood in the coming years.
Cartier Coresi was achieved both by rejuvenating old industrial buildings and by creating new landmarks, making it the first multi-purpose project of this scale, bringing together commercial, residential, office, entertainment, community and public space functions within a 10-year period, leveraging and multiplying local opportunities.
In January 2021, the French group owned by the Mulliez family announced the creation of the services company Nhood, which acts on behalf of the Mulliez Family Association companies - including Ceetrus.
